BIG NEWS this week for Nothing But Nets, our online fundraising project for the UN Foundation. This week we learned we were nominated for a Webby Award for world’s best website in the Charitable Organizations category!!! The Webby’s are the online oscars, literally the top honour in our field, and we were shortlisted over thousands of entries from around the world. This is a huge deal for the UN Foundation, for our creative and development team who made the site, and of course for the families in Africa who we are all raising money for (over $4.6 M to date in less than a year – that’s over 460,000 bednets delivered).

Vote For Us - Webby AwardsWe’ll be running a more formal campaign soon to encourage our networks to vote for the people’s choice awards – there are 2 awards in each catetory, one voted by judges and one by the peeps – but in the meantime please vote for Nothing But Nets to win the People’s Voice Award! We are under Society and Charitable Organizations.

In case that wasn’t enough good news for the campaign, last month we were chosen as one of 5 top charities to be included in a special 2-night special American Idol episode on April 25th called Idol Gives Back. Modelled after the hugely successful "Red Nose Day" in the UK, the show will focus on raising money for charities, donating money for every vote it receives from its millions of fans, and also encouraging those fans to donate money directly to the charities.

I haven’t seen American Idol yet but it looks like I’ll have to sit through an episode later this month, it’s not every day a project you are so deeply involved with is profiled on international TV. I may even start a Nothing But Nets Idol Watch Party, if you are inspired visit the site to find out how you can help too.

Go Nothing But Nets!
