Today we launch our Nothing But Nets Webby Awards campaign. The website we did for the UN Foundation was nonimated for a Webby Award — the online Oscars — which means we are already among the top 5 charity websites anywhere.

Vote for Nets! Webby Award Badge

We are calling the campaign "Our website saves lives", which it does. And the more people who vote for us, the more attention we will get, which means more traffic, more donations of nets, and thus move lives saved in Africa. We are building off of an incredibly successful campaign – over $5M raised in less than a year, and 511,000 mosquito bed nets sent to Africa so far! Almost $5,000 of that total was from our own Communicopia Netraiser team too. If you want to donate $10 or more click here and search for the "Communicopia" team.

The other websites in the category are all great sites (especially the ones from our friends at Bioneers, who do amazing visionary work) but ours is the only one that saves lives. If you want to help, click here to find out how to vote and please vote!

We are currently in second place, so we have to activate our networks to win the People’s Voice Award if we’re going to win this one (there are 2 Webby Awards in each category – one voted by the esteemed Academy and the other by the peeps). And it’s a mad rush – we only heard about the nomination last week and voting ends next Fri, April 27!

The campaign we are running consists of four elements:

  • a "friends of NBN" email postcard that we sent out to the NothingButNets list of supporters and donors
  • a more generic, "friends of partners" email postcard that will go to the broader UN lists, with custom postcards for each major partner to send to their lists: theUnited Methodist Church (with 8M members), Sports Illustrated, and NBA Cares
  • a badge that we can all put in our email signature files (see the top of this post)
  • and a landing page on the NBN site that explains to people how to vote, because it requires more than just clicking a link

We think we need about 20,000 votes to put us over the top. If you are reading this before April 27th please take a moment to vote for Nets!

And leave us a comment below if you have any thoughts about the site we’d love to hear them. Wish us luck!
