On Thursday February 25, 2010, one of our long time clients, the UN Foundation will be featured once again on the Emmy-award winning television show, American Idol. The overall theme of the show is raising awareness and much needed funds to support the UNF's and others' efforts to help Haiti rebuild.
The United Nations Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner's historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. The UNF's work is focused on decreasing child mortality, improving disaster relief, protecting diverse cultures and environments, creating a clean energy future, empowering women and girls, and improving U.S.-UN relations.
We've been busy helping the UNF prepare their site for Idol Gives Back with updated information and fresh imagery. We are super excited to bring the UNFs work to an even greater audience.
Since the earthquake, the United Nations has been working hand-in-hand with Haitians assist their recovery, including delivering food and water to millions of Haitians, providing jobs opportunities for employment to more than 200,000 people, ensuring women and children are safe, and mitigating diseases such as measles and malaria.
During the show, viewers will be asked to support the efforts in Haiti by donating much-needed funds. Donations will be accepted online and via text-messaging, and proceeds will go to the Idol Gives Back Foundation to help the UN Foundation and their work in Haiti.
In 2007, UNF's Nothing But Nets campaign was one of 10 profiled on ‘Idol Gives Back', leading to over $6 million raised for more bed nets to combat malaria in over 15 countries. Communicopia was proud to have led the NBNs online strategy, built the site and worked with many of our amazing friends to bring the campaign to life.
This year's American Idol special will air April 21, 2010.
