Congratulations are in order for the UN Foundation for reaching another impressive milestone in their highly successful global effort against malaria.

Last week the Nothing But Nets campaign met its goal of giving malaria-preventing bed nets to every family in the Central African Republic. In total they supplied about 837,000 nets with a value of more than $1.25 million.

Nothing But Nets is still based on a simple message (that we helped write back in 2006): Malaria kills. Bed nets save lives. Each mosquito-repelling bed net still costs only $10, including costs to make it (in Africa), distribute it to a family, and train communities in how to use them and make them last for years.

The campaign has been going strong since 2006, having raised over $40M and distributed over 4M bed nets in 25 African countries. This past July the campaign was re-energized featuring popular singer/actress Mandy Moore as its spokesperson. Moore's participation was instrumental in attracting new, younger audiences, and featured several social media initiatives including a live Malaria Townhall on Facebook attracting more than 10,000 viewers.

Communicopia was honoured to help the UN Foundation conceive of, create, and grow the Nothing but Nets campaign from the start. You can read more about the work we did together (and how it helped us win a Webby Award) in this case study.

The UN Foundation will continue to run Nothing But Nets in 2011 as they work towards their goal of eliminating malaria deaths by 2015. A goal that seemed impossible only 5 years ago. Want to help them get there? Buy a net, save a life. today
